8 Things to Know About Botox for Wrinkles & Facial Lines

Are you thinking about getting Botox to remove some of your wrinkles? Before you book your FREE consultation with Altura Aesthetics, we thought we’d answer a few common questions that come up during our Botox consultations.

What is Botox?

Botox is made up of tiny amounts of a highly purified botulinum toxin protein, which is refined from the bacterium, Clostridium botulinum. Since muscle activity such as squinting, scrunching of forehead and frowning cause facial lines, when injected into certain muscles, muscles temporarily reduce activity and thus reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

Botox is one of the most extensively studied medical aesthetic treatments and is approved for cosmetic use in 78 countries. Studies on Botox have been published in 417 peer-reviewed scientific and medical journals.

Will Botox make me look like I’ve had work done?

The answer to this questions is yes and no. People you interact with all the time may notice a difference in your appearance because you will most likely have fewer wrinkles and lines than to had before. You may find yourself getting more comments like, “Wow! Do you ever look good”?

But, will Botox be noticeable to people who you don’t see very often? The answer is no, providing the injections were done by a professional. You should not lose the ability to show facial expression when Botox is injected properly.

Do Botox injections hurt?

The needles used to inject Botox are very fine and most of our customers report it feeling like a light pinch or a bee sting. Often our customers are surprised at how pain-free the procedure is.

Are there any side effects when you have Botox injected?

In clinical studies, three per cent of people have experienced eyelid drooping from frown line injections and one per cent of people have experienced eyelid swelling in “crow’s feet” injections. Other reported side effects include:

·         dry mouth

·         discomfort and  pain at the injection site

·         tiredness

·         headache

·         neck pain

·         eye problems: double vision, blurred vision, decreased eyesight and dry eyes

·         allergic reactions

Note- while there are possible complications with any procedure, our doctors rarely see these side effects.

How long does the procedure take?

The actual injecting of Botox is rather quick, usually taking two-to-three minutes. However, before the procedure Altura Aestheics doctors will spend about 10-to-15 minutes answering all your questions, going over the procedure and talking to you about post-treatment care.

What is the average treatment cost?

This is one of the more common questions we get and the answer always varies depending on the person – it’s always best to come get a free consultation so that our experts can give you a more accurate estimate. The cost of Botox varies based on how much you need, but Altura Aesthetics charge $10 dollars a unit. People generally need between 25 and 50 units to achieve their desired look.

When will I see results?

You should notice results in 24-to-48 hours. Botox injections tend to get rid of wrinkles and lines for three-to-four months.

How long is the recovery time after treatment?

The recovery time for Botox is almost non-existent. After your treatment, you can resume your day with little downtime.
